क्रिसमस को हम ईसा मसीह यानि यीशु के जन्मदिन की खुशी में मनाते हैं। यह पर्व हर साल 25 दिसंबर को होता है। इस पर्व को लगभग विश्व के सारे देशों में मनाया जाता है। क्रिसमस (Christmas) से 12 दिन तक  क्रिसमसटाइड उत्सव होता है। एन्नो डोमिनी काल प्रणाली के अनुसार ईसा मसीह का जन्म 7 से 2 ईसवी पूर्व के बीच में हुआ था।  25 दिसंबर को ईसा मसीह का जन्म हुआ था इसमें कोई वास्तविकता नहीं है, लगता है कि 25 दिसंबर की तिथि को रोमन पर्व या मकर संक्रांति से संबंधित यह दिन चुना गया है। क्रिसमस (Christmas) की छुट्टियों में लोग एक दूसरे को उपहार देते हैं। चर्च में सजावट होती है समारोह संपन्न होता है। क्रिसमस का पेड़ रंग बिरंगी रोशनी, झांकियों आदि से प्रदर्शित किया जाता है। सांता क्लॉज जिसे क्रिसमस का पिता माना जाता है। यह  क्रिसमस से जुड़ी एक लोकप्रिय, काल्पनिक और पौराणिक विशेषता है जिसे अक्सर क्रिसमस के दिन बच्चों के लिए उपहार देने के साथ जोड़ा जाता है। सांता के वर्तमान स्वरूप के लिए मीडिया मुख्य रूप से जिम्मेदार है।

क्रिसमस को ईसाई समुदाय के लोग मनाते हैं लेकिन गैर ईसाई लोग भी क्रिसमस को सांस्कृतिक उत्सव के रूप में बड़े ही धूमधाम से मनाते हैं। क्रिसमस के दिन उपहारों का आदान-प्रदान एवं सजावट किया जाता है। इस दिन छुट्टी के दौरान मौज-मस्ती भी किया जाता है। दुनिया भर के अधिकांश देशों में 25 दिसंबर के दिन यह पर्व मनाया जाता है। क्रिसमस की पूर्व संध्या यानी 24 दिसंबर के दिन बहुत ही अच्छे समारोह के आयोजन किए जाते हैं। ब्रिटेन और दूसरे राष्ट्रमंडल देशों में क्रिसमस को अगले दिन यानी 26 दिसंबर को बॉक्सिंग डे के रूप में मनाया जाता है। कुछ देश के लोग सेंट स्टीफेंस डे या फीस्ट ऑफ़ सेंट स्टीफेंस को मानते हैं। आर्मीनियाई अपोस्टोलिक चर्च 6 जनवरी क्रिसमस डे मानते हैं। जुलियन वेर्सिओं के अनुसार अनुसार 25 दिसंबर को ही क्रिसमस डे होता है।
